After living through the last few years are you afraid for your family and the future?
During the past 3 years, we have gone through pandemics, lockdowns, political upheaval, strange weather patterns, and what seems like a “new normal” every week. We are going through record inflation, gas and food prices rising so high many of us are worried about being able to feed our families, empty shelves in grocery stores, crime and mass shootings fill the nightly news. So, it is not surprising many of us are living in fear. Our once great nation seems to be crumbling and the decisions being made by our government are causing more fear, stress and worry.
As Christians, through our connection to Jesus, we have many ways to overcome fear and live a life full of joy and peace no matter what is going on in the world around us. One way is to pray God’s word. Have you considered praying God’s word over your fear?
Praying God’s Word is Powerful!
Praying the Scriptures will increase your spiritual growth. When we remain in God’s word by praying it each day, our hearts become more aligned with God’s heart. Jesus was passionate about the Word of God and used it when He prayed. He knew the power of the Word of God in prayer. In fact, when Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, He quoted the Word of God. The devil left because God’s word is so powerful. Praying the Word of God brings freedom, discernment, and protection. God’s Word can bring life in a most amazing way! Celebrate because God has given us 365 scriptures, one for every day of the year to pray over your fears.
How to Pray God’s Word Over Fear
When we read God’s word in the Bible, scriptures may stand out in your mind. You may feel a connection to it. Perhaps it speaks to you of to something going on in your life. Highlight them or write them in a journal. Memorize or repeat them until they are a part of you. FInd a quiet place, then pray the scripture back to God.
When we are unsure of what scripture to use, search scriptures to pray over fear, anxiety, illness, family, or anything that might be on your mind. Ask others what scriptures they use in their prayers.
Ask the Holy Spirit to Help You Pray.
Praying can feel overwhelming for many reasons, but God knows your heart! In Romans we see that the Holy Spirit actually prays on our behalf when we don’t know what to say. So allow the Holy Spirit to pray for you when you can’t think of what — or how — to pray yourself.
Romans 8:26-27 New King James Version26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [a]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
God want us to intimately connect with Him through prayer. There is no better way to do that than to use His own words. As you pray Scripture, you’ll find new ways to talk to God and never run out of ways to speak to Him
Here are some of my favorite scriptures to pray over fear
Hebrews 13:6 KJV So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
Isaiah 35:4-14.“Tell everyone who is discouraged, Be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue…”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
