How Gratitude Can Change and Improve Your Life

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  –1 Thessalonians 5:18

What is Gratitude?

Many people believe that gratitude is simply saying thank you to someone who gives you a gift, complement, or does you a favor. It is that and so much more.  Gratitude is feeling and communicating to God and others our appreciation for the people, circumstances and material possessions in our lives. When we offer goodness and grace to others, the same grace and forgiveness we first received from God we are expressing Biblical gratitude. It means to extend the joy of receiving to others and God through gestures of kindness and goodness.

Why is living a life of gratitude is important?

A life of gratitude helps us to see our life in ways that make us feel we are living in abundance rather than being deprived. This helps us feel more positive emotions, enjoy the good experiences, improve our health, deal with adversity, and build strong healthy relationships. As a result, we become more motivated, less fatigued and, ultimately, better off.

This acknowledgment that each moment of life is enough, no matter what our experience. While some moments are pleasant and some unpleasant, some are painful, and some are filled with joy. Through all of our moments, we have what we need. It is a feeling of all is well in our lives.

What are the 3 Parts of Gratitude

The three stages are:

  • To begin, we must recognize what we are grateful for.
  • Then we acknowledge it.
  • And finally, appreciate it by expressing it and offering thanks to God or others

An Attitude of Gratitude

Living a life of gratitude isn’t easy. Like any spiritual discipline, it requires time, effort, and faithful practice. The rewards are so great it makes it worthwhile. A grateful heart is thankful for salvation and for God’s blessings, but it is also able to be grateful in difficult circumstances.  Developing an attitude of gratefulness requires a mindset change and practice. It is a practiced behavior, so you have to find ways of practicing it. I begin my day by telling God thank you for this beautiful day no matter what the weather. Then I thank Him in advance for the endless blessings, opportunities, possibilities and abundance I will receive. I also keep a gratitude journal daily. In order to help you begin your attitude of gratitude, I have a gift for you, a free downloadable 31-day gratitude journal.
